Telling your arse from your eyeball

There were recent reports of a doctor who, shown an x-ray, proved unable to distinguish an ankle from an elbow. I am not sure that I could tell the difference, but it is perhaps the least one expects from someone who has had years of medical training.

Charles Christian put up on Twitter a photograph which suggests that you need to keep your wits about you when you go to have an eye test, especially when the optician says “Lean forward so I can take a picture”.

One should always treat such pictures with suspicion for fear that someone has tampered with them. A basic test – increasing the contrast of the picture and looking for edges round inserted elements – suggested that this one is for real. Alas, a little delving around suggests otherwise.
